Purpose of Job

The primary purpose of this position is to perform high-quality diagnostic imaging procedures using Portable Digital X-ray (PDX) equipment, ensuring optimal patient care and safety. The Radiographer will be responsible for preparing patients for procedures, operating radiographic equipment, maintaining accurate records, ensuring safety of the Portable Digital X-rays, and adhering to radiation safety protocols.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assess patients and their clinical requirements to work out which radiographic techniques to use.
  2. Prepare and position patients for X-ray procedures, ensuring their comfort and safety.
  3. Operate PDX equipment to capture high-quality diagnostic images. 
  4. Maintain accurate records of radiographic procedures and patient information using the necessary data collection tools and reporting.
  5. Ensure compliance with all radiation safety protocols to minimize exposure risks. 
  6. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care. 
  7. Perform a range of radiographic examinations on patients to produce high-quality images.
  8. Take responsibility for radiation safety in the work area, including checking equipment for malfunctions and errors.
  9. Manage referrals to ensure patients receive a radiation dose as low as reasonably possible.
  10. Provide support and reassurance to patients, considering their physical and psychological needs.
  11. Supervise radiography and any other imaging support assistants.
  12. Keep up to date with health and safety guidelines, including ionizing radiation regulations, to protect oneself and others.
  13. Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities.
  14. Staying up to date with the latest industry development and technology.
  15. Perform routine maintenance and quality control checks on radiographic equipment.
  16. Support and adhere to the facility’s policies and procedures. 
  17. Work closely with the State TB and Leprosy Control program (STBLCP) to ensure optimal use of the Portable Digital X-rays for Active TB case finding in Hotspot communities.
  18. And any other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  1. A degree in Radiography and a practicing license from the board.
  2. Minimum of 1 year work experience post internship and NYSC.
  3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to explain procedures to patients.
  4. Good observation skills and attention to detail.
  5. Self-motivation and the ability to work under pressure.
  6. Organization and decision-making skills.
  7. Confidence in using leading-edge technologies.
  8. A high level of emotional intelligence to manage the emotional and distressing situations you may encounter.
  9. Familiarity with NGO activities, particularly TB programs, is an added advantage.
  10. Must be flexible with absolute integrity, organizational awareness, and understanding of cultural differences.
  11. Physical fitness to handle the demands of the role, including standing for long periods, and moving equipment.
